This movie is based on a true story and that might be the reason why it didn’t go anywhere. There was no evolution of characters and story really didn’t have any hooks – it was essentially depiction about compulsive liar who chased after the money and the men. I guess it’s difficult to write a good storyline in a movie which is based on a true story and actual characters. Ewan McGregor pulled the role of Phillip Morris very well. He was very believable with his southern accent and his emotional input – and a good thing is that he didn’t use the typical mannerism as an easy way to act gay. Jim Carrey tried to pull Philadelphia with this one [FAIL] – really an Oscar bait. I must sadly say that most of his later roles have been driven by the narcissism and need to be a ”serious actor”. Carreys devotion was much weaker that McGregors – McGregor bravely went down on Carrey, but Carrey didn’t return the favour.
